Selling a Locked Phone in Malaysia
Lock status affects whether ReDevice can buy a phone, and how it's valued. This page explains the types of lock we check for and what we need from you before a purchase can go ahead.
Types of lock we check for
- Carrier lock
- A carrier-locked device is accepted case-by-case; quotation is adjusted accordingly.
- Passcode lock
- We need the device unlocked or the passcode provided for inspection.
- iCloud / Activation Lock
- The device must be signed out of Find My / iCloud before sale.
- MDM / company management lock
- The device must be released from company mobile device management before sale.
- Telco / network financing lock
- Devices still under active telco financing may not be eligible — confirm your case on WhatsApp.
- Google FRP (Factory Reset Protection)
- The device must be signed out of the Google account before sale.
Ownership verification
ReDevice does not purchase devices with uncertain ownership or reported as lost/stolen. We verify ownership (e.g. MyKad, matching account details) before completing any purchase — this protects you as the seller, ReDevice, and the device's future owner.
Our approach
Exact acceptance depends on the specific lock type and device. Where a locked device is accepted, it's handled case-by-case and the quotation is adjusted accordingly. If you're unsure whether your device qualifies, describe the lock type on WhatsApp before visiting the store.
