Preparing Your Device: Data & Privacy

Before selling, trading in or couriering a device to ReDevice, here's what to prepare and what our inspection does and doesn't need to access.

Our privacy commitment

Inspection focuses on the device's hardware, function and lock status — not your personal content.

What inspection needs to access

We need the device unlocked (or the passcode) to check hardware function, screen response, cameras, sensors and lock/account status.

What ReDevice does not need to browse

We don't need to open your messages, photos, apps or personal accounts to complete an inspection.

Back up before selling

Back up anything you want to keep — photos, contacts, app data — before you hand over your device.

iCloud / Find My removal

Sign out of iCloud and turn off Find My before sale — this is required for Apple devices to be purchased.

Google account / FRP preparation

Sign out of your Google account before sale — this is required for Android devices to be purchased.

Factory reset

Once backed up and signed out, factory reset the device. If you're unsure how, ask us on WhatsApp or we can guide you in-store.

eSIM / SIM removal

Remove your physical SIM card, and remove or transfer any eSIM profile before sale.

Memory card removal

Remove any microSD or memory card before sale, if applicable to your device.

Authenticator / banking app migration

Migrate any two-factor authenticator or banking apps to a new device before selling this one.

Courier preparation

Complete the steps above before packaging your device for courier — see our courier buyback policy.

Corporate devices / MDM

Company-managed devices must be released from MDM before sale — see our corporate buyback and IT asset disposal pages.
